A post-hols studio VLOG!
all the post-holiday feels, making a new zine and holiday books!
Hello!
First off, I’m just going to say, I’ve decided to take a break from our regular schedule of live meetups (Picture Book Club and Art Club) as I know lots of people are away or at home with the kids. Instead, I have made a studio, behind the scenes vlog. Normal service will resume next month!
How are you all? I’m back from our annual two-week wet, windy and occasionally sunny Welsh summer holiday! It’s actually been three years since we went to Wales. It’s been our family summer holiday destination for a long time, but I guess the last few years, for various reasons, we haven’t been. But we were really missing it, so this year we decided we would go, no matter what. This time we spent a week in Tenby and then went on to see my dad who lives in the middle of Wales. It wasn’t without it’s challenges, as summer holidays can be. The night we arrived at my dad’s, Dylan, our 17-year-old son, picked up a vomiting bug somehow and spent all night bent over a sick bowl, and the next few days we were all recovering (and hoping we wouldn’t get it!). Since we got back, Nick, my husband, has been ill with a sore throat, so it’s been a bit of a rude homecoming. But despite all that, we had a wonderful time together, it was lovely to see family and so great to spend time in Tenby again after three years!
I’ve come back from holiday feeling refreshed and like the Welsh wind has blown some of the general work fog and fug away, and I feel surprisingly chirpy and energetic.
Regular readers will know that I love a bit of post-holiday energy, be it post-Christmas hols or summer, and I thought it would be a good moment to film a studio vlog. Ick - I feel a bit weird using that word - vlog - it all sounds a bit influencer! Is there a different word I could use? Suggestions most welcome!
Anyway, what I have made is a little film, back home in my studio after our holiday. I chat about:
my general post-holiday thoughts. How I am taking advantage of the clean-slate energy that little bit of time after a holiday, and before fully getting back to work can bring
A little behind-the-scenes making my 10th zine, which is Tenby sketches book 2! I talk you through how I select the sketches, how I plan the layout, cover selection with a sketchbook look-through.
A little sneak-peek at my new book - Dear Vincent - written by Michael Bird, published by Thames and Hudson!
A look-through the vintage children’s books I got on holiday
I will let you know when the zine is available to buy - it’s currently being printed. I am thinking about doing something special with this one, as it is my 10th zine. Keep your eyes peeled.
I won’t say anymore. On with the film. Just to say, it’s a bit of a whopper at 1 hour and 8 mins, so you might want to watch in a few sittings!
Until next time,
Ella xx
If you would like to watch, I’d love for you to upgrade to paid. It costs the same as a fancy coffee to not only get access to all my new paid posts, but the whole back catalogue too, of which there are LOADS. All my old Art Club and Picture Book Club archive, but also loads of behind-the-scenes process videos too!
