Hello everyone! I am here today to chat with you about the Advent Challenge for which I am a co-host with a bunch of wonderful illustrators and led by the fabulous illustrator Ema Malyauka. See link for full details of all the illustrators.
I thought this would be a quick chat - but it turned into a half-hour witter - I hope it is helpful for you. I wanted to chat about my process when responding to prompts, and how I am not one for working in a very methodical way, but ultimately, I still get the work made.
In this video, I wanted to give you permission to work in whichever gloriously messy way helps you create work. I think sometimes we feel we should be able to make a brilliant set of roughs, and then make a palette, and create a mood board etc... in order to make work. But it doesn't work for ME to create that way. I tend to hop around, experiment, try things out, meander, get lost, find my way again, and in this video I talk about coming to terms with and actually embracing my messy imperfect way of working, and seeing it as a process - MY process - and that it works brilliantly for me! So I hope this video gives you permission to do these prompts YOUR way, even if that means you draw them with your eyes shut!
