Introducing Accountability Club!

Hello! We had our first co-working today, and I can already tell it’s going to be brilliant. We had people working on book ideas, making things to sell at fairs, and even one person who used it to get around to sending emails!

So, for those who missed it in my last email/post, I am starting daily co-working, which I have decided to call Accountability Club, because that is the way I am going to use it. If you want to know more about why I set it up, you can read about it here.

Right now, I’m here to give you a brand-new, shiny link (please disregard the last one, it was faulty) and to explain how it works.

this is what I made in a week of co-working recently!

So, first of all…

How it works:

(I’m explaining in bullet points to make it super easy)

  • Join the live link (below for paid subscribers) at 9.30 am every day (here is a handy time-zone converter)

  • We will say hello for 5-10 minutes chat. I’ll ask you what you’re working on, and tell you what I’m focusing on too. (If you don’t want to chat, just let me know in the chat at the beginning.)

  • After that, we’ll turn our mics off (but leave your camera on if you want, as it gives the nice feeling of working in a studio together) and work on creative projects together. This should quickly stack up, and I hope we’ll all start making lots of lovely creative progress!

  • After 50 mins or so, I’ll let you know time is up and we’ll have a quick wrap up and chat about what we did for 5-10 mins

Some caveats

  • I’m seeing this as a trial run, so please bear with me while I have any teething issues with Zoom links

  • It’s also possible I will forget to turn up! If this happens, I can only apologise, and will turn up again the next day. I don’t want to let my forgetfulness stop me giving this the best go possible, and I’m hoping once I get going and it becomes the way I start my day every day, I won’t forget anymore!

  • It’s also possible I will have things in the diary, in which case, I’ll let you know in the calendar links post here. It will look something like this:

    • Co-working schedule w/c 16th June:

      Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs, Fri

Why? How? What?!

  • I know we all have creative projects we want to develop more, but never quite get around to as often as we might want, so this is for exactly those things. The projects sitting quietly in a pile (or in your head) waiting for you to start work.

  • My intention is to resist as much as I can the urge to work on my official projects during this time. I want this to become a new daily habit of working on new, developing projects, until it becomes second nature.

  • Don’t know how to start or what to work on? Much like taking a line for a walk in Art Club, I suggest you just do anything. Make a mark on a piece of paper. Write one word. Draw a box and fill it. Before long, you will find yourself making another mark/word/box…

New link:

Here is the Zoom link to join. It is an open Zoom room, which means we can use the same link every day.

Join the club!! Accountability Club is for paid subscribers. I really appreciate every subscription and see it as a little affirmation that I am on the right track. Read all about my history here. All subs help me to continue making illustrated books, and creating posts here on Substack. And as well as supporting me, you get benefits too. What?! Yes, you heard me! You get access to my big back catalogue of paid posts, and access to my monthly Zoom sessions: Art Club and Picture Book Club. And if you can’t attend live, all sessions are recorded and posted afterwards.
