Hello to you all!
Wow, it has turned cold here in the UK this week. It has been in the minuses today, and everything is covered with twinkling frost. Normally this time of year I begin to get gloomy, but I am feeling hopeful that my new strategies to tackle the winter blues have been helping. Mainly it involves getting out for a daily walk to get as much vit D as possible, and leaning into the cosy vibes of winter! It makes me cringe a bit to write that, but it has been genuinely helping! I’m going to talk a bit more about how I made my winter plan in my next post. The third post in my New Year Spruce Up posts.
Anyhow - I am pleased to be posting the replay for last night’s Art Play Date.
Art Play Dates are designed to help you let go of your logical thinking brain and to make some intuitive, playful and free-flowing art. Each month I choose a theme (some months I keep it loose, sometimes quite specific) and I lead you through an hour-long art-making session on Zoom. All recordings are available as replays.
ALL THE INFO FOR THIS WEEK’S DATE:
THEME?
I thought it would be fun to choose colour as a broad theme this month. I began the session with a mini chat about colour - explaining a little bit about analogous and complementary colours, colour saturation and a little bit about how you can use tone with colour. I picked out some picture books and looked at a few spreads and how the artists had used colour. I hope it was an inspiring start to the session - everyone made some gorgeous art!
MATERIALS:
You will need:
- paper - ideally A3 or bigger
- art materials - choose a selection of things you want to explore. What do you feel drawn to? Grab it, and use for your replay session!
- I have picked another ceramic beauty to draw from, attached below for paid subscribers, or feel free to set up a still life, or choose your own picture.
HOW:
As always, I lead the session, and focus the camera above my paper, meaning you can play along with me, or go off-piste in your own direction.
Onto the replay:
Art Play Dates are for paid subscribers - but don’t forget, I am still offering 20% off for the whole of 2024 if you join in January. This is the last time I will be doing a special offer for a while, so if you want to join, now is a good time.
