June Calendar & Creative Co-Working Sessions

Hello! And Happy June!

I’m coming to you today with all the dates you need for my live meet-ups in June. And keep your eyes out for some behind-the-scenes videos, including a sketchbook look-through, which I have recorded - it just needs to be edited and uploaded. And I’ve had a request to post a video I made a few years ago on Patreon about my #100dayproject, so I will fish that out and upload. I may even add a little addendum to it, chatting about any new thoughts about doing projects like that.

But for now, I’m going to keep this short and sweet, as I am due to send a batch of pencil roughs by the week. I’ve worked out I need to do two hours per spread to deliver on time. Wish me luck!

I am popping in an impromtu co-working session today (at the time of writing) - Tuesday 7th May 2-4pm. I’m aiming to put a few more in over the course of June while I hyper-focus on my sketching. Keep an eye on this thread in the chat for links (where I will put the link for today’s co-working, as well as at the bottom of this email)

I am also trialing scheduling all my events with Luma, which I am reliably informed is a useful way for you all to be able to add events to your calendar, and I will embed the links there too, so hopefully they will be an easy, seamless way for you to attend all my live events. I will embed the links at the bottom of this post. I think you should be able to sign up for the events via Luma without having to make an account with them, but the only way to know for sure is to give it a go. So let’s see this as a trial run, shall we? I’m including the old-fashioned links too, for those of you who don’t want to mess around with a new system!

Finally - have you seen that I’m offering 50% off paid subs until the end of June? Use this link to upgrade!

Twice every month I run these fun, informal and playful art sessions. I choose a theme or material I want to play around with and you can either join in, or go off-piste, and do your own thing. I might spend a session playing with wet textures, playing around with how things bleed, mix together and blend. Other times I might grab a handful of random materials and play around with those together. All previous Art Play Dates are available as replays, and each new session adds to the back catalogue to watch and play along with.

I was recommended Luma for creating meetings, so you can all add the dates to your calendars, and the time-zones become much less confusing too! So I’ve added links below to register for the events, and add them to your calendars.

June Art Club Dates:

  • Session 1: Tuesday 3rd June, 12.30 - 1.30pm GMT

  • Session 2: Tuesday 17th June, 12.30 - 1.30pm GMT

Theme:

  • May Art Club 1: Let’s do some self-portraits again! I really enjoyed our session last time, and I’ll try and focus less on the wrinkles this time! Grab a mirror and put on some lipstick! I’ll start with the usual warm-up and will try and some exercises to help us get in the portrait groove!

  • May Art Club 2: Shall we do some more ceramic painting? I’ll take a look through my ceramics books and pick out a fun image to paint!

One of my favourite things about the MA was when we looked at picture books together and analysed them, so I am thrilled to run this on my Substack. I announce the book at the beginning of the month and then we have a live Zoom together and chat all about it! It is available as a replay afterwards for those who can't make it.

Date:

Thursday June 26th, 8-9pm

Book Choice:

Our Picture Book Club choice this month is the wonderful Pokko and the Drum by Matthew Forsythe

Get the books from friends of Gather, Filter, Make Helen Hancocks at her bookshop Shelf Editions or Katie Clapham at her bookshopStorytellers Inc.and help support Indies!
