Picture Book Club is my monthly book club, but because I am a children’s book nerd, in my book club we read a picture book each month! I announce the book at the beginning of the month, and suggest some questions for you to consider, and then we have a live Zoom together at the end of the month to chat all about it!
Picture Book Club is for subscribers only. You can join for £4.50 per month - that’s like a fancy coffee these days, and as well as Picture Book Club, you get access to my back catalogue of paid posts, regular updates and behind-the-scenes videos from my studio. You also get exclusive access to my monthly lives: Art Play Dates and Picture Book Club. Plus, access to my private community, chats and loads more. You also help support me in making not only this content on Substack, but you help support my transition into becoming a fully-fledged illustrator.
If you are already a paid subscriber - thanks SO MUCH - your support means so much! If it’s beyond your budget at the moment, no worries, you still get access to my free posts and updates, which will pop up here on the regular...
Hooray! here is the replay for February’s Picture Book Club!
It’s a really fun book - we looked at it in class as part of the MA in Children’s Book Illustration I did in 2019, and it is somewhat of a cult favourite among children’s book nerds, such as myself! It is a masterclass in sequential storytelling.
If you want to buy the book, may I recommend you get it through these sources:
• Shelf Editions run by the brilliant
• Storytellers Inc. run by the fabulous
Question prompts:
I always suggest a few question prompts for you to use to think about before watching (or joining live). Here they are, along with the replay, for paid subscribers:
This is an interesting one, as it is wordless. How do you think the book was “written”, and how do you think being wordless affects the storytelling
Would the book have been better with words?
upgrade now to watch the replay. It’s just £4.50 per month - that’s like the price of a fancy coffee these days! (or save a tenner and pay annually for £45 per year!)
