Hello! I know I say this every month, but this month’s Picture Book Club really was fun! We found ourselves going off on some lovely tangents, and we ended up just being a bit blown away by the book, Janet Ahlberg’s brilliant illustrations, and Allen Ahlberg's brilliant bookmaking and writing! It’s such a classic book, and I really enjoyed having a deep-dive celebration of it!
One of my favourite things about the MA was when we looked at picture books together and analysed them, so I am thrilled to run this on my Substack. I announce the book at the beginning of the month and then we have a live Zoom together and chat all about it! It is available as a replay afterwards for those who can't make it.
March Book Choice:
Each Peach Pear Plum - Allan Ahlberg and Janet Ahlberg (this is one of my favourite books from my childhood!)
If you don’t know Each Peach Pear Plum, it’s such a wonderful “clever simple”1 book. It’s such a brilliant book, clever page turns, charming illustrations, and such a fun concept, like playing eye spy in a book, but in a way that I remember never growing bored of, despite many re-readings.
Get it from friends of Gather, Filter, Make Helen Hancocks at her bookshop Shelf Editions or Katie Clapham at her bookshop Storytellers Inc. and help support Indies! There should just be time to get copies in time - or pop to your local indie bookshop.
The video is below for paid subscribers, plus links to some of the things we chatted about in our meandering rambles!
I hope you enjoy - until next time!
Ella xx
