Studio Tour - once more, with feeling!
I've re-cropped the video for better viewing.
Hello to you all!
I’ve decided to re-post my studio tour video, because I accidentally filmed it in portrait, which would be OK for viewing on phones at least, but I didn’t realise that because I edited it in iMovie, it had saved as a landscape video, so if you wanted to watch it on a phone, it was teeny tiny to watch! So I have cropped it so it is a proper portrait video, and that means you can watch it nice and big on a phone (and hopefully it will be OK on a desktop or iPad too!) and you can have a proper nosey at all the books, materials, cupboard interiors etc…
Many apologies for my tech blunder! I hope you enjoy this reformatted edit!
I’m re-posting the whole post again, with all the written text below. This is for paid subscribers - I hope you will consider joining. As well as getting access to my long-form videos like this, you also get access to my live meet-ups (also available as replays for catch up) Art Club, which is now fortnightly, and Picture Book Club, where we get all nerdy and analyse and pore over a children’s picture book every month! Plus my big back catalogue of videos.
I hope you enjoy - let me know if you have any tips for studio organisation in the comments below! I’m ever-hungry for tips!

P.S. did any of you appreciate my Buffy inspired post title!?
Hello! I’m trying Substack’s video feature, rather than uploading to Youtube and linking to here. Hopefully it all works well.
So, this is the big studio tour. I have actually filmed this three times!! Once there was too much rambling, once, my head was cut off and the camera work was super wobbly and I was worried you all might get motion sickness. So here we are at the third time - I have tried to minimise the waffle/rambling, although this is an in-depth snoop around! It’s an hour long, so you might want to grab a cuppa and a snack - or maybe you can put it on in the background as you work/iron/do your chores!
Why am I doing this video now? I’ve been making a big effort to sort the studio recently, and bought a few storage items, (like the organiser in the wardrobe, and the shelves with my shop stuff on that you see in the video). It feels so good to get a bit more organised in here, so I wanted to give you a little tour. In this video I take you around a big 360 walk around my studio, I show you my books and how I’ve organised them, and pull some off the shelves. I show you my art storage, and my desk set-up and talk a bit about how I use it, and the things that I find super helpful for a comfortable and easy set-up for making my illustrations. It’s long, as I say, but I hope you’ll enjoy having a nosey around, and it might inspire you to have a little procrastination tidy or sort yourself (I love a procrati-tidy!).
Here are some links and notes to go along with it:
LINKS
I show a TON of books, so I can’t link to them all, so instead, let me know in the comments if you want details of any of them, and I can let you know.
I mention the Frisk Stay Wet paint palette again. Here is a link. It’s a game changer if you work in acrylic!
This is the video I mention where I show you some of my vintage picture books, and you see a previous version of my studio.
This is the folding pencil block. It took a few weeks to arrive from memory, but is a great price!
Are there any other links you want? Let me know in the comments and I can add them!
I forgot to talk about the little area under my art storage corner, but you can see my zines tucked away in there in the final pan around at the end of the video if you are nosey to see it. And feel free to ask any questions in the comments!
I realised after I made the video that I filmed it all in portrait! I’m hoping that means you’ll be able to watch it nicely on a phone, and that it doesn’t upload as landscape with big black edges on either side - fingers crossed! However it uploads, I hope you can see it all big enough :)
I hope you enjoy!
Until next time,
Ella xx
